Cantilevered Staircases

Cantilevered staircases—an architectural specialty of Siller

Cantilevered staircases are among the most distinctive and technically demanding solutions in contemporary stair design—and one of Siller’s particular specialties. They embody the utmost restraint, architectural clarity, and an impressive visual lightness.

The defining feature of a cantilevered staircase is its seemingly floating structure, with individual treads projecting from the wall without any visible support. This creates a minimalist appearance that places the entire focus on material, form, and spatial impact. In high-end interiors in particular, wood treads with crisp rectangular geometry are often used, deliberately designed without visible connections and with a pared-back aesthetic.

Siller expands on this principle with a wide range of design and engineering options. Cantilevered staircases can also be constructed in concrete—with exceptionally slender cross-sections as thin as 60 mm at widths of up to 995 mm, or in more substantial versions up to 1500 mm wide with correspondingly greater material thicknesses. Adding marble dust gives the concrete a refined, stone-like appearance, allowing it to blend harmoniously with a variety of architectural color and material palettes.

For an especially dynamic spatial effect, cantilevered treads can also be tapered or shaped with geometric narrowing. Their undersides are precisely beveled, creating an additional sense of visual lightness. This design language can also be applied to curved or organically shaped stair runs.

The range of materials extends from fine woods to concrete and glass, as well as modern materials such as acrylic and Corian. Each version is individually tailored to its architectural setting and executed with technical precision.

The result is a cantilevered staircase that is not only structurally sophisticated, but also reads as pared-back, floating architecture within the space—an interplay of engineering expertise, material aesthetics, and design precision.
