San Francisco, Palo Alto, curved wood staircases

This is an especially beautiful staircase that we built for a private residence in California, the Sunshine State of the USA. 

Connecting three stories, this helical staircase clad in wood veneer has a sculptural presence. A sprinkler system is installed beneath the staircase so that the wood stair can also be used in the event of a fire. 

Structural wood staircases offer many advantages over steel structures. The material is much lighter, and it is easier to build a staircase entirely from wood than to use a steel core that must be clad on every side.
